De koorsymfonie ‘The Bells’ uit 1913, opgedragen aan Willem Mengelberg en zijn Concert gebouworkest, en de ‘Symfonische Dansen’, het laatste orkestwerk dat Sergei Rachmaninov voor zijn dood in 1943 schreef, behoren tot de meest kleurrijke composities van deze componist. Daarom is het een waar feest dat nu de Berliner Philharmoniker en chef-dirigent Sir Simon Rattle zich over deze werken buigen. Een cd waarbij de volumeknop wat hoger mag en de buren met plezier mee zullen luisteren.
